North Carolina African Services Coalition has resettled from over 20 different countries since 2007. Our Resettlement and Placement (R&P) case managers play an integral role in the resettlement process for each refugee. Prior to a refugee’s arrival, the case manager assigned to the case prepares for the new individual or family by finding them an affordable apartment and furnishing the apartment with the necessities.

With every refugee NCASC resettles, a staff member welcomes them at the airport and takes them to their new home where a culturally appropriate, warm meal awaits them.

Case managers give each refugee a comprehensive cultural and programmatic orientation to life in the United States. Refugees are informed about housing, employment, U.S. and North Carolina laws, and the additional programs offered by African Services Coalition. All newcomers will receive effective cultural orientation on topics such as the role of the resettlement agency, U.S. laws, public education for children and adults, ways to learn or practice English, how to use public transportation, banking, money management basics, and how to access healthcare services, and citizenship.

For the initial 90 days of a refugees’ arrival in Greensboro, our case managers provide an array of essential services: health-screening referrals, social security card applications, public assistance applications (Medicaid, Food Stamps, Cash Assistance, etc.), English Language Training referrals and much more.

North Carolina African Services Coalition is a resettlement affiliate of the Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc. (ECDC). Reception and placement activities that the North Carolina African Services Coalition conducts are paid for, in part, through financial assistance provided by the Department of State through ECDC.
